Biography

Dr. Hayes received a BA from KSU in 1986, an MPA from the University of Missouri in 1990, and a PhD from KU in 2003. She is a sociologist by training and an experienced social scientist. Dr. Hayes is experienced with qualitative and quantitative methods. She has worked on multiple funded projects with a variety of agencies, including universities, federal agencies, and community-based agencies to strengthen and improve programming. Her work has focused on increasing equity in education, delivering youth violence prevention programming, and school-based positive youth development to reduce risks (i.e., teen pregnancy, HIV and STD prevention, and substance abuse prevention).

Dr. Hayes has also provided various evaluation and program development services, including comprehensive proposal development services and strategic planning services. Additional experience includes writing evaluation plans and reports, analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, delivering training and technical assistance, and developing databases, systems, and processes to track, capture, and monitor performance measures. She has also taught undergraduate courses in sociology and graduate-level courses in health policy and management, including statistics. She will provide leadership for the KU CCHD in evaluation.
