Biography —
Elise (she/her) is an Administrative Associate Senior at the Center for Community Health and Development (CCHD), where she provides technical support for the Community Checkbox Evaluation System, assists with the Community Tool Box and other website operations and communications, and provides project supports. She is excited to contribute to an organization dedicated to empowering individuals with lived experience to foster meaningful change in their communities.
Originally from Alabama—Roll Tide, y’all—she moved to Lawrence for graduate school and earned a master’s degree in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Kansas. Her work as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow explored emotion regulation, focusing on the role of specific prefrontal cortex regions involved in cognitive reappraisal, gender differences in emotion regulation processes, and the links between executive functioning deficits, emotion dysregulation, eating disorders, and non-suicidal self-injury.
Before joining CCHD, she worked for a statewide suicide prevention agency, HeadQuarters Kansas, where she tracked and reported on crisis services data, analyzed call center performance, supported grant research, developed educational materials, conducted suicide awareness and gatekeeper trainings, and provided crisis counseling for callers of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Her experience also includes maintaining departmental websites and creating digital and print resources from her time at KU’s Counseling & Psychological Services, as well as analyzing survey and operational data for major national retailers and fast-food restaurants from her role as a Research Analyst at a consumer insights company, Service Management Group.
In her free time, Elise enjoys reading, gardening, creating modular origami, and spending time with her husband, two fluffy cats, and one small but tough dog.
